ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Mesa County Workforce Center invites local job seekers to submit hiring questions that will shape an upcoming employer survey and future workshops. Submit your queries by Friday, Jan. 23.  Mesa County

  • Central High School announced a new STEM partnership with Colorado Mesa University and the CU Boulder Engineering Program yesterday to offer college-level courses, university mentorship, and guaranteed admissions with expanded merit scholarships (for qualifying students) that strengthen local STEM pathways.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Junction Fire Department urges families to install and test smoke alarms, create fire escape plans, and check heating equipment as 2026 begins in Grand Junction.  KKCO 11
  • The GJPD Animal Control Unit launched Jan. 1, 2025 and handled over 5,000 calls in its first year, addressing dog bites, barking complaints, and more in Grand Junction. Manager Amber Peck said the unit also engaged in community education and park visits.  KJCT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported that Mesa County recorded 97 flu hospitalizations since Oct. 1, more than double last year's count. The county increased its data reporting to weekly — a move to better monitor 13 outbreaks in nursing homes and schools.  KKCO 11
  • The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is offering free radon test kits in Grand Junction during January’s National Radon Action Month. Nearly half of homes have radon levels above EPA guidelines + residents are urged to test their homes to reduce lung cancer risk.  KKCO 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Grand Junction native Randy Emmons (PonchoMan) has attended Broncos games since 1996 and travels 13 hours for every home game. He is excited as the team prepares for the NFL playoffs after their Sunday win over the Chargers.  KKCO 11
