- ➤ fuTÚros (a free program) was launched by Eureka McConnell Science Museum to support 25 bilingual high school students from Grand Junction, Fruita and Palisade; the program will offer twice-weekly sessions featuring university visits and advocacy trips (program perks). KKCO 11
- ➤ Mesa County Valley School District 51 began using ParentSquare earlier this week for school communications and will shift all alerts, newsletters, and classroom updates to the platform by next school year to improve two-way engagement for families. Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
- ➤ Mesa County Libraries offer free Internet safety classes. Clifton Library hosts a session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 22; Fruita and Central libraries hold sessions from 2 to 3 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 29. KKCO 11
- ➤ Mesa County Libraries will offer free Internet Safety and Privacy classes this month at Clifton, Fruita and Central branches to help residents guard against online scams and phishing. Sessions are scheduled for Jan. 22 (Clifton), Jan. 26 (Fruita) and Jan. 29 (Central). KJCT
- ➤ On Jan.15, over 1,000 high school juniors at District 51 visited the CMU campus to explore career paths during the annual Workforce Development Day, where students attended breakout sessions and heard from local professionals (including a keynote speaker) about college, technical training and workforce options. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County approved a contract this week to extend its mattress recycling program at the county landfill; the four-year initiative processes about 15,000 mattresses annually and saves roughly 34,000 cubic yards of space plus nearly $300,000 through recycling materials into products like carpet padding. - ➤ Baron Rojo, a popular Mexican butcher shop, had its appeal to reinstate its food license rejected by Mesa County Public Health + repeated health violations led to its closure in October, leaving the establishment unable to reopen. KJCT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County Public Health released the 2025-2026 Youth Tobacco Report today, showing that 1 in 8 students tried tobacco before age 13 and that vaping is the most common form of tobacco use. The report urges stronger family communication & honest conversations to help prevent early usage. Mesa County
