COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County CASA in Grand Junction needs more volunteers to support children as 64 minors wait for court advocacy. The organization will host a Sugar and Sweethearts desserts and dance fundraiser on Feb. 14 at Redlands Community Center to boost support. KKCO 11
- ➤ Grand Junction is one of the top ten finalists in a nationwide contest for America’s Favorite Small Town thanks to strong local voting, which is open daily. Community support may also bring extra celebrations during the downtown July 4 parade if the city wins the title. KKCO 11
- ➤ Local foundations helped nonprofits manage funding cuts last year from federal and state budget reductions. The Rocky Mountain Health Foundation increased aid by $1 million for critical services while the Western Colorado Community Foundation awarded nearly $10 million in grants to support food banks, health centers and social services across the region. - ➤ Grand Mesa Nordic Council reached the $1.64 million goal for Skyway Station, its first permanent building near the Skyway Trailhead. Donations from roughly 350 supporters spurred construction that began in August, and the shelter will finish in April with an event planned before ski season. Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
