COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grand Junction hosts three free community events: Jazz Ambassadors perform Mar. 20 at Asteria Theatre, Ashes to Go offers a noon blessing and soup luncheon Feb. 18 at Sherwood Park, and Mesa County Safety Fair runs Feb. 25–26 at Mesa Mall with an online fair Mar. 2–6.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Honoring the life of young Danial Beckner, the local car community organized a memorial cruise on January 25 from Canyon View Park through downtown routes to celebrate his courageous fight against terminal brain cancer before his passing on January 21—offering support for his grieving family.  KJCT
  • Nearly two months after a bus crash injured Central High School wrestlers, donors held a silent auction and raffle at Wrigley Field Sports Bar + Grill on Jan. 25 to raise funds for travel costs, replacing equipment, and supporting recovery efforts, with donations accepted through the week.  KJCT
  • In 2025, Friends of Youth and Nature provided over 12,000 youth and families with outdoor experiences and scholarships across Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties (up from 8,800 the previous year).   • Owners of a 13-acre orchard in Palisade permanently conserved the land to continue farming and protect scenic open space along the river. The move, part of the Fruitlands Forever Initiative to save over 1,000 acres, includes plans to plant 4,500 trees this spring.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Federal regulators rejected a merger application by Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern on Jan. 16 because of missing data — a move that could slow plans to boost local train traffic by 20% over coming years. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported that 11 of 25 reintroduced gray wolves have died and the survival rate stands at 56% (with one additional Colorado-born) as of today. The agency also announced that no capture operations will occur in 2026 following a directive to halt imports from Canada.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
