ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Mesa County Search and Rescue responded on Friday at about 1 p.m. to a report that a climber had fallen 15 feet from Mosaic Tower at Colorado National Monument; he hiked down and then received medical care for mild discomfort.  KJCT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Enstrom Candies begins making handmade chocolate bunnies and eggs for Easter, starting production six to eight weeks before the holiday at its Grand Junction factory. The small team uses original recipes and hand-painted molds — including the first-ever ten-pound rabbit — to ensure each treat is unique.  KKCO 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Colorado Mesa University, Moss Performing Arts Center’s $16.3 million renovation is updating Robinson Theatre with new HVAC, seating (now 400 seats) and a recording studio, and work will continue through April as faculty and students noted changes on Jan. 20.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Land Management burned slash piles near Little Dolores, about 13 miles southwest of Glade Park on Jan. 27-28 to remove wildfire fuel and invasive species. More burns are planned through April — weather conditions will set the timing.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado officials said Medicaid will support caregivers only 56 hours per week per patient (a 50% drop) to help control the state budget and reduce burnout; the change will start in spring or summer if the feds approve.  KJCT

  • Ava Health will open a new behavioral health center in Grand Junction on Feb. 9 to offer mental health and substance use services for Mesa County and nearby rural areas. Leaders developed the model with local, regional, and state partners as demand grows.  KKCO 11
