  • Fruita branch of Mesa County Libraries will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Feb. 12 at Fruita Community Center. The branch began its partnership with the center in 2008 and now offers tech help + color printing and community programs.  KJCT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A third-grade class from Loma Elementary School named Family Health West’s new surgical robot E.L.I. during Monday’s event at 300 W. Ottley Ave. in Fruita, and the class won a $500 prize to support its STEM program + boost interest in robotics and medicine.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Japanese beetles damage more than 300 types of plants, and Natural Resources advises residents to use non-chemical methods, such as drying lawns and hand-picking, to manage infestations. Though eradicated from Mesa County between 2002 and 2008, experts warn small beetle numbers can quickly multiply + endanger local gardens.  Mesa County

  • El Pomar Trustees approved $145,000 in grants today for seven nonprofits and government entities in the Northwest region, supporting projects like fire protection, education, and new building facilities.
