ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Clifton Nature Park and the Riverfront Trail will close Feb. 17-19 for invasive tamarisk tree removal — that will boost native plant growth and cut wildfire risk. The park will reopen after 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado officials plan legal action against the EPA’s move to revoke a key greenhouse gas endangerment finding, saying it will raise fuel costs and harm public health + erode vehicle fuel efficiency gains. The Energy Office and Attorney General will challenge the decision in court.  KKCO 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Red Cross has updated its First Aid/CPR/AED training to include infant CPR techniques and nasal epinephrine administration for at-risk groups (infants, older adults, and those with chronic conditions) during National Heart Month in Grand Junction.  KKCO 11
  • Will Rausch works as Mesa County Public Health’s epidemiologist to track illness spread and educate locals on health threats. He checks confidential case reports (EpiTracks) and interviews residents to spot outbreaks and guide public health actions in the community.  KJCT
  • Grand Junction Fire Department launched the Community Paramedic Program in early 2026 to visit residents with chronic health issues at home and help prevent repeat 911 calls (the project operates from Fire Station 7 and plans to add more paramedics).  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • On Thursday, Mesa County Public Health issued a food safety alert after retailers and restaurants may have sold recalled oysters harvested by Stellar Bay Shellfish that could be contaminated with norovirus, and officials advised everyone to discard them and seek medical advice if symptoms occur.  KKCO 11

  • Palisade High coach John Sidanycz earned his 100th career win on Friday night when his Bulldogs beat Montrose (49-44), highlighted by senior Hunter Howard’s 15 points and a Gatorade bath celebration.
