  • Due to limited funding, HomewardBound will permanently close its North Ave. shelter on Feb. 28, affecting about 100 clients and consolidating services at the Pathways Family Shelter downtown with stricter admissions and new support zones.   • Savauge Spectrum, the award-winning winery, is bottling its prized Zweigelt wine using traditional Austrian methods in Palisade. Winemaker Patric Matysiewski said the process features hand-harvested grapes with natural fermentation that delivers a young, energetic wine which will hit shelves in a few months.  KKCO 11

  • The Colorado Avalanche Information Center warns that avalanche danger will remain at level 3 for backcountry travelers this weekend, so people should watch for signs like cracking in the snowpack (indicating unstable layers).   • Grand Junction recorded 3.1 inches of snow on Friday — breaking the century-old record of 2.8 inches from 1913 — as local coffee shops saw more customers seeking a warm refuge.  KKCO 11

  • Grand Junction is switching its 3,800 recycling accounts to a single-stream system next month ahead of the new Materials Recovery Facility opening later this year at a 58,000 sqft building on 10 acres off 32 Road — residents can keep their blue-lid bin or request a 96-gallon one for weekly pickup.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
