CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra held its Young Artist Competition on Feb. 22 at Two Rivers Winery and Chateau with 109 applicants from 24 states and Canada. Magdalena Kuzma won the contest and will perform with the symphony in its upcoming season.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The CU Denver Anschutz Rural Program gives medical students hands-on training in rural care + nearly 40% of its graduates work in rural areas as they rotate at sites like Pagosa Springs and Grand Junction to address local doctor shortages.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County Public Health is accepting $25 residential burn permits for Grand Junction from March 1 through April 30 while non-city residents can get free agricultural permits until May 31; applications can be submitted online or in person at the Health and Human Services Building.  Mesa County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill in the legislature will expand the livestock disease fund to cover field testing and education; supporters say early prevention can save money for local producers amid bird flu outbreaks. The House passed the measure and it now heads to the Senate.  KJCT
  • Mesa County’s open burn season begins March 1 in Grand Junction, with $25 residential permits available online (or in person) until April 30 and later until May elsewhere. County Public Health aims to balance air quality with local agricultural needs.  KJCT
