Good morning, Grand Junction. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 1st of March.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Homeward Bound closed its North Avenue shelter Saturday morning — forcing about 100 residents to leave and raising concerns for nearly 900 annual users. Local groups provided winter gear and donations to help, and the organization continues operations at its Pathways location.  KKCO 11
  • The Palisade Board of Trustees met Tuesday to debate the future of the condemned Veterans Memorial Community Center after its boiler failed, weighing a demolition costing $1M against nearly $4M in renovations — public input also suggested using Peach Bowl Park for a new center. No final decision was made.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Colorado Senate passed 29 bills last week to cut an $850 million budget deficit, which will cut 80% of funding for residency programs at places like Children’s Hospital and Intermountain Health St. Mary’s. Hospital administrators warn the cuts will shrink the number of trained doctors available across the region.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

LIFESTYLE NEWS
