  • Local business owner Lori Henderson transformed her life after homelessness and now leads FirstLight Home Care in Grand Junction, having tripled its operations while supporting nonprofits with fundraisers and volunteer time.   • The Home Improvement and Remodeling Expo marks its 50th year at the Grand Junction Convention Center today (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) with over 60 local vendors offering home upgrade ideas and prizes; admission is $5 at the door or $3 for seniors.  KJCT
  • Victory Life Church hosted its seventh annual Strong & Courageous Men's Conference this weekend, drawing nearly 700 community members from across the valley and beyond, and church officials said they are in talks with larger venues for future events.  KKCO 11

  • The Grand Valley Creative Alliance is building the ARTery community arts studio in downtown Grand Junction to give local artists a dedicated space for classes and creative work — construction is about halfway done and the nonprofit plans to finish this summer while launching courses this spring.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Birders spotted the first confirmed blue jay in 22 years in the Appleton area when a March 1 sighting confirmed its presence. A Grand Valley Audubon Society member said the interior blue jay — native to moist woodlands east of the Rockies — may stay in our valley.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council approved a CMU lease at Lincoln Park to build a football facility while preserving public access to the Lincoln Park Barn — following years of discussions between CMU, the city and community, the deal will also save the city over $300,000 annually in maintenance costs.  KKCO 11
  • On March 3, Mesa County appointed Ryan Surad as pest inspector for the Upper Grand Valley Pest Control District to protect local orchards and crops. He will inspect for pests and advise property owners on management plans as development nears farmlands — a move to safeguard agriculture.  Mesa County
  • Colorado River District general manager Andy Mueller says states are still trying to reach a deal that will keep Lake Powell's water levels safe — without cooperation, federal action could be forced soon.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community Hospital began construction on Monday at 2351 G Road to add two ORs + upgrade its sterile processing area. The 12,400 sqft project, costing about $12 million, will help meet growing surgical demand and is expected to finish in February.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

  • Chuck, the owner of Diorio’s on North Ave, starts at 6 a.m. each day to prepare fresh dough, sauce, and a rotating menu of specialty pizzas including pesto and feta, Sicilian, and deep-dish options.
