COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After HomewardBound Shelter closed at the end of February, Delta’s Riverbend Resource Center is near capacity with only two case managers helping unhoused residents with mental health, job, laundry, and shower support. City officials plan to add staff and open a limited emergency shelter soon (city manager Elyse Ackerman Casselberry said).  KJCT
  • 318 Truth in Action Ministries—a coalition of local churches and volunteers—repaired a roof for a low-income family in Cedaredge on March 7 and boosted community spirit across the Grand Valley. The group will continue offering free home repairs and support over the coming weeks.  KKCO 11

  • The Fruita Area Chamber of Commerce held its sixth annual Women in Business Conference on Wednesday at the Colorado Mesa University Ballroom, drawing more than 200 professionals from across Western Colorado. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Mesa University's grad nursing program (with small class sizes) was ranked third best in Family Nurse Practitioner education by RegisteredNursing.org and AllNurses earlier this month.   • Fruita Middle School students build a shed each quarter in their new engineering class to learn construction skills; local businesses helped with the roof installation and the first shed will be auctioned Saturday at Cattleman’s Auction in Loma + the program seeks to spark career interest.  KKCO 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local water quality monitoring continues for Leach Creek and Adobe Creek as Mesa County and partners extend the Total Maximum Daily Load program. A new agreement with Wright Water Engineers was approved on March 10 for water sampling, lab testing, trend evaluation + annual reporting to inform future mitigation efforts.  Mesa County
  • Record breaking heat is expected next Thursday through Saturday in Grand Junction — highs in the 81 to 83 range may break historical March records and bring rare 80 degree days to Montrose and Cortez.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County residents can apply for LEAP to help cover winter heating bills through April 30 for the 2025–2026 season; eligible households must pay heating costs directly or through rent and meet income and residency guidelines when applying online, by phone, or via mail at the Human Services lobby.  Mesa County
  • On March 4, the council approved a 25-year lease granting Colorado Mesa University exclusive use of the Lincoln Park Barn and adjacent land near Ralph Stocker Stadium to build a new football facility while preserving the historic barn — the 5–1 vote followed extensive public comment and community input.  The Business Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community Hospital and Montrose Regional Health signed a letter of intent to explore a nonprofit partnership that would support community-based health care on the Western Slope and eastern Utah. They expect to reach an agreement later this fall and finalize details by end of 2026.  KKCO 11

  • Both Plateau Valley Cowboys boys and girls teams reached state — a first in school history after winning regionals — and will play today at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, with the boys facing Golden View at 5:30 p.m. and the girls playing Sanford at 7 p.m.  KJCT
