- ➤ At Fire Station 1 on Thursday, the Grand Junction Fire Department held an awards ceremony to honor firefighters, community members and local business leaders who helped save lives in the area — including a vet from Fruita who rescued a horse trapped in a culvert. The event also recognized a firefighter who quickly responded to a call and helped a woman escape a house fire. KJCT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Patrick Egan, the Grand Junction man accused of strangling a reporter in a hate crime attack last year, appeared virtually in court on Thursday when his legal team asked for another delay in his trial, which is now set for April 24 + his appearance lasted just about five minutes. KKCO 11

- ➤ The Colorado Mesa University Student Exhibition is showing local college student work at The Art Center at 1803 North 7th Street, featuring ceramics — sculptures, drawings, paintings and prints. The exhibit, selected by an outside juror, runs through April 4. KKCO 11

- ➤ Gear Junction is hosting its 21st annual Grand Valley River Cleanup on April 19, where volunteers from Gear Junction, RiversEdge West+Grand Valley Paddling Club will pick up trash along local rivers. The effort aims to protect our waterways, and a fall cleanup is set for September 13. KKCO 11
- ➤ At a March 11 public hearing, the Board of County Commissioners approved a $200,000 extension with Clean Harbors Environmental Services for hazardous waste disposal at Mesa County’s HWCF— which handles over 280,000 pounds of waste annually, and residents may drop off hazardous waste at 3071 US-50 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. - ➤ The Mesa County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a $275,000 contract with New GMCO, LLC for magnesium chloride to control dust on 63.95 miles of unpaved, low-volume roads—an effort aimed at reducing frequent re-graveling and saving taxpayer dollars. Mesa County
