CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Grand Junction law enforcement is teaming with CDOT, CSP and 76 agencies for St. Patrick's Day weekend checks for drunk driving, setting up sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and extra officers along Highway 6 and 50 between Fruita and Palisade—CSP said state troopers in Mesa County looked into 70 crashes last March, including two with serious injuries—while urging drivers to plan a safe ride home. - ➤ Controversial speaker Jared Taylor will talk at CMU on March 27 at 6 p.m. amid student criticism of his views; he posted on X—where one student said his presence would destroy campus progress—and sent a letter to CMU President John Marshall inviting him to challenge his ideas after the talk. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Grand Junction Police Department is reactivating its K-9 unit after a year off due to manpower shortages — officers can now submit letters of interest to be paired with one of two selected dogs that will train for six to eight weeks to help fight crime. KKCO 11
- ➤ Colorado State Patrol and Grand Junction Police are teaming up for a surge enforcement operation — set off by spring break rush and Saint Patrick’s Day events — that began March 14th to patrol major roads. Officers will cover Highway 6 and Highway 50 between Fruita and Palisade, as well as Loma point, to reduce crashes and discourage impaired driving. KKCO 11
- ➤ Mesa County Commissioners approved a $100,000 second contract extension with RockSol Consulting Group Inc to provide on-call quality assurance testing services for road projects during a March 11 public hearing. Mesa County Engineering will inspect—test and document five to six major and 10 to 15 minor transportation projects to maintain high construction standards. Mesa County
- ➤ Ballots for Grand Junction’s municipal election will be mailed to registered voters starting Monday, March 17, 2025, and must be returned by April 8, 2025 at 7 p.m. Mesa County Elections will run the voting services + voters can return ballots by drop box, mail or in person at the Voter Service and Polling Center + five secure drop boxes are set up at key public sites. - ➤ The city announced on March 14, 2025 that Crosby Ave. will be closed from Main St. to W. Gunnison for utility work until May and that Four Canyons Parkway (at 24.75 and F5) will be closed March 17-18. CDOT will adjust I-70 Business Loop access by closing 2nd and 3rd between Ute and Pitkin (with one lane remaining) to support construction. City of Grand Junction

- ➤ Officials with Bray Real Estate say the February 2025 Bray Report shows trends similar to January as monthly house sales increased 8% from 173 to 187 and median prices rose 10% from $359,000 to $360,000 while last month’s figures dropped less than 1%—sales remaining below pre-pandemic levels.
