COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Grand Mesa Nordic Council received a grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife to design, map and plan new ski and snowshoe trails as part of the work required for U.S. Forest Service approval. Officials plan to gather public input on the trail trials and host end-of-season parties – on April 6th at Yarrow Taproom and April 13th at Peach Street Distillers – to share more details.  KKCO 11

CRIME NEWS

  • Grand Junction police responded to vandalism at Colorado Mesa University when racist and antigovernment messages were spray-painted on campus; officers are investigating and asking for help to find two suspects (a white male seen with a bun and a white female in a striped sweatshirt) as the case remains unsolved.  KKCO 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Mesa Nordic Council received a grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife to design, map and plan new ski and snowshoe trails — the grant will cover work required under the National Environmental Policy Act and other assessments for U.S. Forest Service approval. Officials plan end-of-season events on April 6 at Yarrow Taproom and April 13 at Peach Street Distillers to gather public feedback on the new routes.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over the weekend, six firefighters from the Palisade Fire Department attended the March Mayhem Fire Conference in Boise, Idaho where they learned incident command tactics, fire attacks with 2.5-gallon water extinguishers and engine and truck company operations—improving their skills and building professional relationships.  KJCT
  • Ballots for Grand Junction’s April 8 municipal election were mailed Monday, and they ask voters to decide on one proposal to shift elections to November with council terms starting in January beginning in 2027 and another to raise City Council and mayor pay by tying it to the area median income with current officeholders unaffected unless reelected. Four City Council seats are also contested plus votes must be returned by 7 p.m. April 8 via drop boxes, mail or in person.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Mesa County Public Health approved its Community Health Improvement Plan—called CHIP—which focuses on eight health priorities and breaks them into two key areas: economic stability and behavioral health. Nearly 400 community members helped pick the topics and the department will launch a public dashboard soon to track progress.  KKCO 11
