ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A workshop was held today at CSU Western Campus to examine how drought and low snowpack are impacting Western Colorado and share adaptive strategies (like improved grazing management and grass banking) to reduce wildfire risk and secure water for livestock. About 80 local experts, including ranchers and scientists, participated.  KKCO 11
  • Bighorn sheep lambs are roaming near Colorado National Monument Visitor Center in early spring, and one lively lamb has been delighting visitors with its tap-dancing and bunny-hopping movements.   • The National Park Service released its 2025 visitor numbers showing a nearly nine million visit drop nationwide. Locally, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Montrose saw about 86,000 fewer visitors after a summer fire at its South Rim, while Colorado National Monument lost 5,000 visitors.  KJCT
