  • Moto-Moto, a happy six-year-old dog, is ready for adoption at the Roice-Hurst Humane Society. The society will host its Wine and Whiskers Gala on Saturday, March 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Two Rivers Winery.  KJCT

CRIME NEWS

  • Two women from Apple Valley, California were arrested on Monday after a Mesa County deputy pulled over a car on I-70 and discovered six vacuum-sealed packages of fentanyl totaling about 13 pounds—valued at roughly $750,000—with Lucina Lopez held on a $100,000 bond while Vida Arellano awaited arraignment.  KKCO 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Grand Junction Economic Partnership released its 2024 report on March 25, showing over 91 million dollars in economic impact and nearly 300 new jobs for Mesa County; the report detailed a new Amazon facility that created 100 jobs + the relocation of Goose Gear, and it predicted further growth from projects like Morgan Mining + West Star Aviation expansion.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado House passed a bill Monday that requires anyone to get a permit and complete firearm safety training to purchase high-powered semiautomatic guns with detachable magazines after Aug. 1—also banning accessories like bump stocks—and does not affect currently owned firearms. The measure now returns to the Senate for further consideration.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • Commissioners sent a letter supporting a $1 million CPW grant application to purchase land around the Cameo Shooting and Education Complex for public open space and improved trail access (the purchase is estimated at $350,000 with remaining funds to develop trails, parking, and a wildlife area). Palisade Town Administrator Janet Hawkinson said the move aims to resolve trespassing issues near Mount Lincoln and provide an alternate route for Mount Garfield if current access fails, and she expects grant approval by fall.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Xcel Energy urged homeowners and contractors in Grand Junction to call 811 before starting any digging project so that professional locators can mark underground utility and gas lines that may shift with weather — this precaution helps reduce the risk of gas leaks and other hazards; the utility also advises hand-digging to verify line positions and to call 911 if a gas smell resembling rotten eggs is detected.  KKCO 11
  • Mesa County Commissioners approved the purchase of Acelepryn insecticide for $62,279.07 to treat Japanese Beetles on 312 acres—officials plan two sprays this year—and they noted the chemical has proven effective from past treatments.  KKCO 11
