COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Roice-Hurst Humane Society broke ground Thursday on an expansion that will add a new veterinary unit for spay/neuter surgeries and increase spaces for adoptions, volunteering, and fostering (3,000 sqft) to better serve pet owners. Leaders expect the project to be completed by mid-summer.  KKCO 11
  • The annual RV Expo, sponsored by Leisure Solar, is underway at the Mesa County Fairgrounds and will run until Saturday. It operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, featuring RV dealers, vendors and giveaways.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Saturday celebration in Grand Junction has been renamed after abuse allegations against Cesar Chavez; the event at Las Colonias Park Amphitheater will feature food trucks, vendors and live performances + include a car show, mariachi band and folklorico dancing starting at 10 a.m. March 28.  KKCO 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Venice Mitchell, Miss Mesa County Teen, promotes neurodivergent empowerment with her Superpower Thinking initiative by visiting classrooms to encourage students with hidden strengths. The 17-year-old, first runner-up at Miss Colorado’s Teen, will represent Mesa County at the state pageant in June.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire has broken out near Collbran in Mesa County, burning nearly 100 acres on Brush Creek (located at the 19700 block of 64 3/10 Road). Authorities currently monitor the situation with no evacuations reported.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CDOT is advancing road improvements with ongoing work on the I70 Business Loop in downtown and resurfacing on Highway 340—projects include upgraded sidewalks, drainage, and traffic signals while a new roundabout in Palisade is scheduled for year-end; motorists are advised to take alternate routes as construction continues.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife today advised boaters and swimmers to wear life jackets as warm weather returns (with Pueblo Reservoir among sites where water remains cold) to prevent cold water shock.  KKCO 11
