- ➤ Vietnam era veterans and their families gathered on March 28 at Western Slope War Memorial Park to honor fallen soldiers + reflect on 50 years since the war ended. Local groups provided live performances + veterans delivered speeches during the ceremony. KJCT
- ➤ Orchard Mesa Pool is experiencing colder-than-normal water temperatures after a boiler failed repair attempts — the City is working to purchase and install a new one quickly while the pool stays open with its solar system keeping water in the 70's. City of Grand Junction
- ➤ Today the Cesar Chavez Celebration runs at La Colonia Amphitheater from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with food trucks, vendors, a car show, and photo essay scholarship winners to be announced. Tony Garcia (a playwright, musician and social activist) spoke at Colorado Mesa University (room 213, 7 p.m., free admission) yesterday and will appear at the celebration today at 1 p.m. KJCT
- ➤ Bookcliff Middle School and Roper Music in Grand Junction are accepting gently used band, orchestra instruments and guitars today as part of the 15th annual Bringing Music to Life Instrument Donation Drive—donations at 1224 North 25th St will help refurbish instruments that have already supported 330 Colorado schools with over 8,700 instruments donated so far. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Grand Junction Police Department responded on March 28 at 2:55 p.m. to a crash at the intersection of Patterson Road and Rio Grande Drive when a truck turning eastbound struck a person in a wheelchair, who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries—lanes between 28 Road and 28 1/4 Road remained closed as investigators began their inquiry. - ➤ Professional dancer Anthony Noa returned to the stage today at Asteria Theatre in Colorado West Performing Arts Company’s production of Coppélia—his first performance in nearly 30 years—and said his return revived his lifelong passion. - ➤ County decision makers approved a $643,750 agreement with Tyler Technologies, Inc on March 25 that will update the Assessor’s Office’s mass appraisal system and the Treasurer’s Office’s tax collection platform—promising more reliable online searches and shared databases to cut manual work. The contract includes a $180,000 annual fee and seeks to modernize systems that have been in use since 2008. Mesa County
- ➤ Grand Junction residents will participate in the annual spring cleanup from March 31 to April 11, with the first week focusing on areas north of North Avenue and the second on areas south.
