  • In Grand Junction, organizers have renamed the annual César Chavez Day celebration as the Sí, se puede Celebration to honor farmworkers amid allegations about Cesar Chavez. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Forest Service proposed a 20-year timber harvest and hazardous fuels reduction plan on the southern Uncompahgre Plateau plus habitat improvements to lower wildfire risks and support species like the threatened Gunnison sage-grouse.   • MCSO reported Sunday night that the Brushy Ridge Fire near Collbran was 50% contained — Plateau Valley Fire Department now manages the 58-acre wildfire, which was first reported Thursday and now produces no visible smoke.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting today, the City of Grand Junction is launching its annual spring cleanup in the yellow area at 6:30 a.m., while pickups in the blue area will begin April 6. Residents should pile yard waste and household items per city guidelines to avoid fines for oversize loads.  KJCT
  • Colorado River Fire Rescue now requires all open burns in Rifle and nearby areas be completed before 1 p.m. each day (the new rule targets high fire risks, dry conditions, and winds over 5 mph) and bans burns during Red Flag Warnings.  KKCO 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, hundreds of cyclists raced at the Maverick Classic and Beer Fest on CMU's course with criterium contests downtown and road races in Whitewater - a beer garden with 10-15 local breweries helped boost downtown activity.  KKCO 11
  • Grand Junction’s new baseball team, the Razorback Suckers, will launch this summer after a fan vote settled on the name to honor local wildlife and heritage. The team will host themed game nights (including Nurse Night and $1 Beer Night) across 17 games to engage local fans.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Data shows Grand Junction tourism boomed in 2025 with a 14.5% jump in RevPAR due to the collegiate mountain biking championships at Powderhorn and the Class 5A state golf tournament at Bookcliff — boosting hotel stays and local restaurant visits.
