COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Proposals are open for the 2026 Mesa County Community Summit, held Sept. 28 and 29 at Colorado Mesa University Center. Presenters will share practical ideas on serving children and families, with submissions due by May 1 and notifications coming in mid-June.  Mesa County
  • City crews in Grand Junction are wrapping up winter landscaping at Watson Island disc golf course today after enhancing paths and adding a pond for spring irrigation (costing about $5,000) as volunteers plan plantings on April 18 and winter bridge repairs are set to follow.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Grand River Humane Society says five-year-old Silver, a housebroken Boxer and Pit Bull mix, is available for adoption in Grand Junction. He obeys basic commands and walks well but needs slow introductions to cats and small children (GRHS).  KJCT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Meadow Gold dairy facility is reducing its workforce as it shifts focus from frozen food to fluid and cultured products. Dairy Farmers of America said changing market conditions prompted the change and will support impacted employees at Grand Junction, Silt and Cortez.  KKCO 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Negotiations broke down when the museum set a March 20 deadline, forcing the long-time model railroad club to leave Cross Orchards after decades of rent-free access for its annual Christmas show.   • Angela Christensen, the 15-year executive director of the D51 Foundation, announced her retirement effective June to focus on family and travel. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County officials advise homeowners (and gardeners) to plant resistant varieties (lilac, boxwood and juniper) to reduce Japanese beetle damage as warmer weather arrives, with ongoing eradication treatments in the area.  KKCO 11
  • Mesa County landowners may receive 50%+ reimbursement for noxious weed treatment costs on private lands and irrigation ditches through a cost-share program by the Mesa Conservation District. Applications are accepted on a first-come basis as funding is limited.  Mesa County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, Apr. 6, CDOT will resurface I-70 from Gypsum to Eagle using crews to repave the road, widen the westbound off-ramp, and replace guardrails and signs, so drivers should expect single-lane closures until fall.  KJCT

  • Residential sales in Grand Junction reached 313 through February, 12.3% lower than last year, with median home prices rising to $406,750 and new single-family permits increasing to 76 as more builds shift toward Fruita and unincorporated Mesa County (Bray Report).  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
