BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sedona Moon opened Purrl’s Tea & Curious on March 27 at 2829 North Ave, Unit 203 in the Solarus Square building next to Sonic Drive-In and began serving French-inspired teas, pastries and savory dishes with a new tea party concept. The tea house sources its loose leaf teas from Willow Creek Herbs and Teas (411 Main St) and aims to expand on the owner’s former café experience.  The Business Times

CRIME NEWS

  • 59-year-old Patrick James Sneddon appeared in court on March 28th on three counts of vehicular homicide for a DUI crash that killed two CDOT workers and a passenger — his legal team requested a continuance and his next hearing is set for May 1st at 9:45 a.m.  KKCO 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Brandon F. of Grand Junction won $1 million on a $25 Million Cash Explosion scratch ticket bought at Safeway and said he will take his family to Disneyland in Anaheim. He has played the lottery on and off for 20 years and loudly cheered when he scratched his winning ticket.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • The Grand Junction Economic Partnership’s 2024 report shows a record economic impact of $91,252,018 with $32.96 million in capital investments and 299 new primary jobs created while returning $93 for every dollar invested. The report noted that major companies like Amazon—whose $25 million facility generated 100 jobs—and Goose Gear moved here last year, and Morgan Mining’s expansion will mark the largest deal in GJEP history in early 2025.  The Business Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council approved a 90-day lease extension for the unhoused resource center at 261 Ute Ave on Monday—services will run six days a week starting April 15, three days a week from May 15, and one day a week from June 15 until the center closes on June 30 and is demolished in July.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • City officials announced the annual spring cleanup in Grand Junction as pickup began at 6:30 a.m. on March 31 for homes north of North Avenue and will begin at 6:30 a.m. on April 7 for residents south of North Avenue, Orchard Mesa, and the Redlands. They asked residents to place items in one pile against the gutter and noted that electronic devices, appliances, and batteries will not be collected — the 2024 cleanup removed over 2300 tons of trash.  KJCT
  • Grand Junction will host a workshop on building accessory dwelling units on April 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Fire Station Administration training room at 625 Ute Ave. The event is part of the city's housing strategy—designed to guide community members on design, permitting, and construction— and will support increased ADU development.  The Business Times
  • The City of Grand Junction is asking artists to submit proposals to design an artistic shade shelter along a popular hiking trail for the Monument Connector Trail project; submissions are due by May 20 and installation will be complete by August 29.  KJCT
  • The City of Grand Junction is partnering with Bruin Waste Management to develop a recycling-sorting center on 365 32 Road that will be ready by mid-2026—expected to cost $18—19 million. The city is inviting bids for AI-powered sorting equipment while Bruin seeks grant funding to support the project.  The Business Times
