CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is hosting free Community Fraud and Prevention classes at 215 Rice St from 9-10 a.m. on the last Thursday of each month to teach residents how to spot and avoid bank imposter scams, and local officials report the Grand Junction Police Department receives an average of two scam calls each week; residents are urged to freeze their credit and use multi-factor authentication to secure their personal information. - ➤ The Art Center of Western Colorado — partnering with Altrusa International of Grand Junction — is hosting the annual Altrusa Art Fair that features selected artwork from District 51 middle and high school students. Teachers choose 30 projects eligible for awards by external jurors and the exhibition is open to all ages until April 25th. KJCT

- ➤ The City of Grand Junction and the Commission on Arts and Culture are asking local artists to design an original mural for the swimming pools at the new Community Recreation Center currently under construction. - ➤ Grand Junction chef Josh Niernberg from Bin 707 was named a finalist for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef, making him one of five in the United States to receive this honor. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County’s Noxious Weed and Pest crew is restoring the riverfront at The Pond disc golf course along the Colorado River by drill seeding native grasses using a $35,000 America the Beautiful grant awarded in 2023 to remove invasive species and boost the local ecosystem. The three-year project will introduce native wildflowers and involves partners such as RiversEdge West and the Natural Resources Conservation Service — key contributors to the effort. Mesa County
- ➤ Volunteers will help clean the Colorado River on April 19 — organized by Gear Junction, RiversEdge West, and the Grand Valley Paddling Club — along segments from Palisade to the Loma Boat Ramp.
