  • The Colorado Department of Human Services is strengthening families during Child Abuse Prevention Month and will host the CO for Kids Resource Fair on April 25 at the Denver Zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (the first 1000 attendees get free zoo tickets) along with online resources.  KJCT
  • Veritas Injury Lawyers is hosting the Downtown Coin Crawl today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of 4th and Main, where participants can find one of 50 gold coins to exchange for $50 gift cards redeemable at local businesses.  KJCT

  • Several events are on the docket for Grand Junction locals.   • The Daily Sentinel’s Best of the West contest is accepting nominations through April 26 and has already received over 3,000 entries. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Mesa University offers a two-year aviation program that lets students earn a pilot’s license in the first semester and build toward a commercial pilot license. The program features intensive flight and classroom training — celebrating its 10th anniversary next fall.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday morning, the Grand Junction Fire Department quickly extinguished a backyard fire in the 200 block of Red Mesa Heights after neighbors unsuccessfully tried to put it out. Officials warn that hot, dry, and windy conditions may lead to faster fire spread.  KKCO 11
  • Mesa County will start roadside weed treatments on April 20 in Fruita, Loma, Clifton, Mesa, and Collbran, applying herbicides up to 10 feet from main roads. Property owners outside city limits can join the county’s 'No Spray' list to prevent treatment near their property.  Mesa County
