ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 6:24 a.m. on Friday, the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a garage fire at an unoccupied home under construction on the 2500 block of Fryingpan Drive and quickly put out the flames with no injuries reported while investigators looked into the cause.  WesternSlopeNow.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Grand Junction Business Incubator Center launched Camino al Éxito on Wednesday to give Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs access to business resources and workshops — a program developed by Sonia Gutierrez and local leaders to remove language barriers. CRIME NEWS

  • On March 20, shortly after 3:20 p.m., a man stole a black Husky backpack from Home Depot by filling it with items from a display before leaving without paying—authorities said the theft resulted in over $150 in losses and are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.  KJCT
  • On Tuesday around 10 a.m., Eagle County officers pulled over a vehicle on I-70 after a K9 signaled drugs; they found 44 individually wrapped packets of cocaine weighing 111 pounds and arrested 34-year-old Scott Douglas Robinson from Ontario (he faces charges including drug distribution, possession, and conspiracy with a $1 million bond).  KJCT

  • Mesa County Workforce Center now offers free evidence-based assessments for job seekers to verify and improve their workplace skills and earn credentials recognized by over 160 local employers. The center provides tests on personal, foundational, and essential skills and invites job seekers to create an account on Connecting Colorado to schedule an assessment.  Mesa County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County is partnering with Grand Junction for the municipal election on April 8th—voters will choose city council candidates and decide on two ballot questions. The county is using its vote center and ballot drop boxes to ease the voting process, and officials urge residents to cast their ballots as soon as possible.  KKCO 11
  • Drivers in Grand Junction must check their licenses as the federal Real ID rule goes into effect on May 7th—older, out-of-date, or temporary IDs will not be accepted for air travel or access to federal buildings.  KJCT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mesa County Public Health hosted a Behavioral Health Summit where state and local partners discussed crisis stabilization, workforce issues, funding policy, and legislation amid the closure of West Springs Hospital — officials said they will use the summit’s recommendations to form work groups and seek community input on reducing behavioral health issues.  KKCO 11
