  • Construction on the Lunch Loop Bike Park rebuild is underway as COPMOBA partners with the City near the Lunch Loop Trail System to build a new dual slalom course; the project will progress in two phases while COPMOBA raises $225,000 in community funds.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • On Wednesday, Apr. 8, USA Today named Palisade the best small town in the West as residents cast daily votes, boosting local pride (peaches and wines underscore the town’s charm). CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Valley Transit is inviting local artists to propose mural designs for bus stop shelters with applications due by May 12, 11:59 PM. Selected murals will be installed at stops near St. Mary’s and Strive, Lowes, and Picture Show and each artist will receive a $2,100 stipend.  Mesa County
  • The inaugural Rocky Mountain BBQ Classic will feature country music legends Neal McCoy on Friday, May 8 and Chancey Williams on Saturday, May 9 at Mesa County Fairgrounds — along with sanctioned BBQ competitions, bull riding and nightly concerts for an all-in local event.   • Mesa County Libraries invites artists aged 14 and up from across Mesa County to submit work for the Eye of Fruita art show. Submissions are due May 7, with winning pieces on display from May 29 through July 16 and an awards reception on June 26 (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.).  KJCT

  • Today, city and regional water agencies will hold a press conference at 11:00 a.m. at Harky’s Boat Launch in Palisade to update locals on record-low snowpack and drought conditions — tips for water conservation and a spring weather outlook will also be shared.  City of Grand Junction

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County approved a $275,000 contract to treat dirt roads with magnesium chloride in Grand Junction to reduce dust from dry weather—improving travel safety on busy roadways.  KJCT
  • The Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado received an award for Operational Excellence from the National Cemetery Administration today. James Earp traveled from Washington D.C. to present the honor while cemetery director Angela Ingalls said it recognizes community support for veterans.  KKCO 11
  • The Board of Public Health named Erin Minnerath as the sole finalist for its new Executive Director position. Minnerath, who has served as Interim Director — managing key health divisions — will succeed the former director who resigned in December.  Mesa County
  • Gov. Jared Polis signed a law on Wednesday to stop out-of-state produce from being falsely marketed as Colorado grown — the law gives the Department of Agriculture and the attorney general power to enforce consumer protection measures for local farmers.  KJCT
  • A study by the Common Sense Institute finds that opening private rivers may cost Colorado taxpayers tens of billions, since almost half of 107,000 river miles are privately owned (with 1,375 to 1,700 floatable). Former Colorado DNR executive Mike King said efforts to secure easements are slowly expanding public access.  KKCO 11
