- ➤ Grand Junction High School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning to open the Tiger Community Gym—a remodeled facility that community members can reserve for a fee. - ➤ On April 10, CMU held its Rodeo Roundup at University Center Plaza with free food, drinks, a mechanical bull, music, live animals and a peek at this year's rodeo team. The annual Northwestern Mutual Maverick Stampede Rodeo will run today and tomorrow at Mesa County Fairgrounds and is free for CMU students and staff. KJCT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police are searching for two suspects who, on March 9, entered several containers at the National Guard Armory in the 2800 block of Riverside Parkway and stole items including a smoke machine, jugs of liquid smoke, extension cords, a skill saw and LED lights worth over $3,000—they were last seen driving a white Ford truck with an extended bed carrying a large water tank. - ➤ Bruin Waste Management, with support from the Grand Junction Economic Partnership, is building a recycling facility at the old Haliburton Campus on Mesa Industrial Development Park that will add 30 jobs with wages around $56,000—this project will also open doors for Colorado Mesa University students via internships and on-the-job training. - ➤ Former Western Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert introduced the Pet and Livestock Protection Act to reissue the 2020 rule that delisted gray wolves and block judicial review that could let judges in states like California relist them as endangered. The bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Jeff Hurd, passed the House Natural Resources Committee (24 to 17 vote). KKCO 11
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Colorado Department of Public Health confirmed a third measles case on March 31 — experts say one infected person may spread the illness to up to 18 others — and urge families to keep children’s vaccinations up to date. Local school districts may alert parents of unvaccinated children if an outbreak occurs. KJCT
- ➤ Mesa County Public Health held its first Night for Public Health Heroes on April 9th at the Clifton Community Center to honor local staff and partners who helped improve public health. Five honorees, including the Community Food Bank director and leaders from Mutual Aid Partners, the Good Samaritan Clinic and a local advisory group, were recognized for their work.
