COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Clothed in Confidence is helping Grand Junction job seekers with free professional clothing (and interview preparation) to boost confidence for new employment. The nonprofit plans to lease an office pending funding to expand its services.  KJCT
  • A local senior center offers affordable recreation options for residents aged 50 and older, hosting bingo on Tuesday and Saturday, a pool for one dollar per day six days a week, card games, and line dancing classes on Thursday. Membership costs twenty dollars per year.  KJCT
  • Blue pinwheels are on display across Mesa County for Child Abuse Prevention Month to remind residents that abuse can be hidden. Commissioner Cody Davis urges everyone to watch for signs and call the child protection hotline (970-242-1211) if there are concerns.  Mesa County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Caprock Academy seniors were named 2026 Daniels Scholars in a Daniels Fund announcement this week. The scholarship program covers college costs for students who show leadership, academic excellence, and community service.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Central High School bond work has begun on athletic and Fetter Hall renovations as $37.7 million of the $75.4 million budget has been committed; the school board removed six policies, including the school bus policy, and plans a groundbreaking ceremony for early May.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Grand Junction residents can sign up online for tree seedlings as part of the city's annual Arbor Day program, which opened Friday at 9 a.m. The program, limited to the first 200 applicants served by volunteers (benefits include cooling neighborhoods and reducing air pollution), aims to build a greener community.  KJCT
  • Local water utilities reported that a record-low winter snowpack and early runoff have pushed Mesa County into D3 extreme drought, and they are urging residents to conserve water to help secure supplies through the summer.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mesa County Health Department honored public health workers during National Public Health Week, recognizing staff efforts in 2025—such as distributing over 8,000 naloxone boxes—and local community partners (including Penny Gallagher and Tim Moore).  KJCT
