BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways resumed its popular seasonal nonstop flights between Grand Junction Regional Airport and Orange County-Santa Ana on Thursday. The flights run twice a week (arriving at 12:08 p.m. and departing at 12:48 p.m.) just in time for the summer season.  WesternSlopeNow.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, Mesa County officials including MCDHS Executive Director Jill Calvert and Child Welfare Director Joe Kellerby planted pinwheel gardens at the Old Courthouse at 544 Rood Ave. to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month—reminding everyone that every child deserves to grow free from abuse and neglect.  Mesa County
  • Ute Water Conservancy District General Manager Larry Clever announced his retirement — effective May 30 — ending a 30-year career managing water projects and growth. The board is now reviewing internal candidate Greg Williams with a final decision expected on May 7.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • Mesa County Sheriff Todd Rowell opposed Senate Bill 3 signed Thursday by Governor Jared Polis — saying criminals steal firearms rather than buying them. He argued the law, which limits semi-automatic guns with detachable magazines and requires gun safety courses, will not reduce gun violence in Mesa County — pointing out that none of the violent crimes involved those types of guns.  KKCO 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mesa County Public Health said there are no confirmed measles cases as of April 11 and it is ready to respond if one is detected—its staff finished 1,200 hours of emergency training and the clinic offers priority MMR vaccine scheduling.  Mesa County
  • St. Mary’s Intermountain Health opened a new Integrated Addiction Medicine Clinic on the sixth floor of a medical office building to offer addiction treatment and care for pregnant women and new mothers. The clinic triples the space from its old location (with seven exam rooms serving up to four patients at a time) and was funded by over $1 million in settlement funds, the Colorado Attorney General’s office, the Rocky Mountain Health Foundation and the Steadman Group.  WesternSlopeNow.com
