- ➤ Happy Little Rescue held their 'Pawsta for a Purrpose' fundraiser on April 13 — the event celebrated saving 52 shelter dogs from Alabama and raised funds to care for them. The fundraiser also aimed to boost awareness for animal rescue nationwide. KJCT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Western Slope Vietnam Memorial is getting four new steel art pieces from Raven Wolf Macleod Forge — two screaming eagles and two spiral sculptures — to honor service and sacrifice. Corbin Macleod said the project will finish in April or May. KJCT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state forest report shows that the western spruce budworm is the most common pest while the western balsam bark beetle kills the most trees—especially on the Grand Mesa. The report says Ips and Douglas-fir beetles are rising as warm and dry weather weakens trees and may raise wildfire risks. Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

- ➤ Ute Water Conservancy District's General Manager Larry Clever will retire effective May 30 after serving for 30 years, and Assistant General Manager Greg Williams (who began as a meter reader) has been named the finalist to succeed him as the board meets on May 7 to decide his appointment.
