- ➤ The Roice Hurst Humane Society now offers Hank, a friendly seven years old dog who weighs about sixty pounds and loves to curl up in laps, for free adoption because a generous donor covered his fee—making him a great match for families with other dogs or older children. - ➤ Southwest Arbor Fest will be held Saturday, April 26 at Lincoln Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event—sponsored by the City of Grand Junction—will feature a tree seedling giveaway, Coffee with the City Manager, food trucks, craft beer, live demonstrations, a talk with an arborist, and hazardous waste recycling in partnership with Mesa County. - ➤ Grand Junction's 2024 police report showed a small but steady increase in reported crime, including more thefts and misdemeanor arrests, while the police chief said there was no major trend based on a five-year pattern and noted that new traffic units have been added to keep up with the city's growth—efforts that include partnering with local businesses to combat shoplifting. - ➤ Caprock Academy seniors Aila Blaike and Rylan Starnes were awarded the Daniels Scholarship Program—an honor recognizing academic achievement, leadership and character—while on a senior trip to Italy; Blaike will study equine veterinary medicine at the University of Wisconsin and Starnes will major in exercise science at Vanguard University. - ➤ Colorado Mesa University is investing about $100 million this year in campus projects that include a new residence hall, Centennial Village, with over 310 beds and a food hall in the southwest corner of campus. - ➤ The U.S. Postal Service said on April 7 that mail sent from one Grand Junction address to another will stay in the area because it is processed at the local facility. The decision is part of a plan to boost efficiency—spending $6.3 million on upgrades to handle more packages and express services while keeping jobs safe. The Business Times
- ➤ On March 14, the City of Grand Junction began its spring hydrant flushing program in the Orchard Mesa area to 29 Road and Orchard Avenue, with crews flushing about 50% of 995 hydrants from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily over two weeks to maintain water quality plus ensure adequate fire hydrant pressure for emergencies. Homeowners were advised to run water in a bathtub for five to 10 minutes to clear any discolored or aerated water. The Business Times

- ➤ Community Hospital’s Canyon View Surgery Center earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report’s list for Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Orthopedics & Spine. It was one of only six Colorado centers to be honored from a review of 102 centers in the state. The Business Times
- ➤ Mesa County Public Health officials warned that ready-to-eat celery sticks from Duda Farm Fresh Foods were voluntarily recalled—possible listeria contamination led to the recall and the product was sold at Walmart stores nationwide including some in Mesa County. Consumers are urged to check freezers for any 1.6-ounce bundle packs marked Best if Used by Date March 23rd and discard them to avoid health risks. KJCT
