- ➤ United Way of Mesa County will host the 23rd annual Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley fundraiser on May 2 from 4-7 p.m. at 310 N. Seventh Street + Historic Lowell School Building in downtown Grand Junction; tickets are $40 if bought by May 1 and $45 at the gate, with proceeds aiding 43 nonprofit programs that support 50,000 Mesa County residents. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officers responded to two crashes on April 20—one at 29 Road and I-70 Business Loop where a vehicle collision injured one patient seriously and four others with minor injuries, and another where an officer was struck at 29 Road and North Avenue with the second driver sustaining minor injuries, and both incidents remain under investigation. - ➤ The Grand Junction Police Department responded to two crashes on Sunday—one near 29 Road and Interstate 79 Business Loop when a vehicle turning east on I70B was struck, sending one person to the hospital for serious injuries and four others for minor injuries—and a second crash at 29 Road and North Avenue when a GJPD officer on an emergency run collided with a vehicle—resulting in the driver receiving treatment for minor injuries; both incidents are under investigation. - ➤ Law enforcement responded Monday morning to a hit-and-run at Peach Tree Care Center where a driver struck a fence, porch, signage, another vehicle and part of a building, and officials from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and State Patrol suspect the driver based on a Jeep Grand Cherokee license plate while the Grand Junction Fire Department treated one resident for minor injuries as the investigation continues. - ➤ U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet will hold a town hall at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23rd, at the Aseria Theatre on the Colorado Mesa University campus—marking his second town hall in Grand Junction in just over a week. - ➤ Mesa County Elections certified the municipal election results on April 21—incumbent Cody Kennedy kept his District A seat, Laurel Cole won District D, Robert Ballard defeated incumbent Randall Reitz in District E, and Ben Van Dyke was elected Council At-Large—and a majority vote on ballot question 2A will move the municipal election to November while a majority voted no on question 2B regarding a council raise. Vote counts show Kennedy had 9,674 votes over Alexis Hitzeroth's 6,615 in District A, Laurel Cole ran unopposed with 12,163 votes in District D, Robert Ballard beat Reitz with 8,705 to 7,367 votes in District E, and Ben Van Dyke won the at-large seat with 7,876 votes over Ken Scissors's 6,864; ballot measure 2A passed while 2B failed, with new council members scheduled to be sworn in on May 5—departing officials will be honored with benches placed at local parks.
