EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central High School teacher Noelle Westcott received a $1,000 STEM Research Grant & kits from the Society for Science to support real-world experiments in physics, biology, and river dynamics today. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Way Refillery offers a refill program for soap and cleaning supplies downtown as Earth Day spotlights waste reduction. Customers can bring their own bottles + use provided ones to buy only the needed amount, cutting single-use plastic waste.  KJCT
  • The U.S. Forest Service secured 80 acres in Montrose County to protect the popular Buck Trail from private development and maintain safe recreation + fire mitigation in the area. Funded by the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the site will be managed for multiple uses.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Apr. 21, the Colorado House passed Alyssa's Youth Concussion and Mental Health Protect Act (SB26-60), requiring youth coaches to complete a biennial mental health training course through CHASSA. The bill will take effect Aug. 12 to help coaches spot concussion-related struggles.  KKCO 11
  • CDOT fire crews conduct monthly drills at the Eisenhower and Hanging Lake tunnels to practice confined-space emergency protocols using new equipment (including a pumper truck) and techniques to manage fires and evacuate drivers in Glenwood Canyon.   • Grand Junction’s central post office will host a passport fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 241 N. Fourth St. to help families cut 3-4 week wait times with three clerks processing appointments and walk-ins (15-minute processing if paperwork is ready).  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
