COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Mesa County is celebrating one year of its monthly free bike clinic that has repaired over 125 bikes and given bikes to families, individuals, and kids in need. The next clinic will be held on May 5 at Sunshine Community Center (1321 Ute Avenue) from 3 to 5 p.m. as the organization plans to expand its services.  KKCO 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado Pint Day took place on April 29, raising funds for the Colorado Brewers Guild as local breweries offered collectors limited-edition glasses themed 'Cheers to CO 150th & USA 250th Celebrations.' The event boosted business on a slower weekday and aided the craft beer community.  KKCO 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County is adjusting park landscaping amid ongoing drought at 26 locations to reduce water use and protect community areas. Eleven sites (like Long Family Memorial Park) will have irrigation scaled back to save about 7.5 million gallons.  Mesa County
  • On Wednesday morning, Grand Junction Fire Department quickly extinguished a small wildland fire detected (at 9 a.m.) by Xcel Energy’s Pano AI cameras near 24 Road and I Road, with no injuries reported; the fire appeared linked to open burning and crews worked with homeowners to prevent its spread.  KJCT

  • The ARFF truck was unveiled yesterday at Grand Junction Regional Airport, where it can carry 3,000 gallons of water to double the capacity of older vehicles & improve emergency response; officials said the all-terrain rig is designed to reach any runway section in three minutes or less.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mesa County Public Health advises Grand Junction residents to wear long sleeves, use tick repellent, and check themselves and pets as tick season begins to reduce the risk of tick-borne illness.  KJCT
  • On National Fentanyl Awareness Day, the Rocky Mountain Division DEA said fentanyl deaths in Colorado have risen 10% while national rates drop—seizures increased from 5.8 million units in 2024 to 7.5 million in 2025 and just 2 mg can be deadly.  KKCO 11
  • Mesa County Public Health inspectors conducted routine reviews of local restaurants this week from Mack to De Beque. Some spots, such as Rodeo Market, recorded major food safety violations and remain closed until they pass a re-opening inspection (detailed reports are maintained).  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Mesa County Public Health is offering free naloxone at 16 kiosks today on National Fentanyl Awareness Day; over 8,000 boxes have been distributed since late 2024. The program aims to reverse opioid overdoses and plans to add more locations soon.  KKCO 11
