COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grand Junction is celebrating Bike Month with city events—Bicycle and Pedestrian Counts on May 3, 6, and 8, a Bike to Work Day at City Hall on May 16 from 7-9 a.m., and a Monument Trail Ribbon Cutting on May 20 at 4:30 p.m.—and an Intro to Mountain Biking class on May 4 for kids ages 9-12. Additional local rides and festivals are scheduled throughout the month.  KJCT

CRIME NEWS

  • 59-year-old Patrick James Sneddon appeared in court Thursday morning on charges stemming from a September 2024 DUI crash that killed two CDOT workers and a passenger—his legal team secured a continuance and he is scheduled to return on June 11 at 10 a.m.  KJCT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The 12th Annual Colorado Creative Industries Summit took place in Grand Junction on May 2 and drew over 400 participants – highlighting that the creative economy now makes up 4% of Colorado’s overall economy at nearly $20 billion. Governor Polis awarded four creative leadership awards, including the Arts and Community Action Award given to Dana Maestas for her work documenting local folk arts.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado State Patrol reminded motorcycle riders that lane filtering is only allowed during stopped traffic and that riders must pass on the left while keeping speeds below 15 MPH—riders are advised to wear extra protective gear and for drivers to check blind spots.  KJCT
  • The Mesa County Building Department will host two free training sessions on code compliance for builders, contractors, inspectors and architects at the Mesa County Fairgrounds—2785 U.S. Highway 50—in Grand Junction on May 13 and May 14 from 7 to 9 a.m. The sessions will cover updates to the 2024 International Residential Code, 2024 International Building Code, 2021 International Energy Conservation Code and Colorado’s Model Electric and Solar Ready Codes and require no registration.  Mesa County
  • The City of Grand Junction announced that Crosby Ave will be closed from Main St to W. Gunnison for utility work through May while drivers on West Pinyon Ave between S. Commercial Dr and W. Crete Cir must use Patterson Rd as a detour. Construction at the Horizon Dr and G Rd roundabout will continue until October and CDOT will reduce lanes on I-70 Business Loop on First Street and Ute & Pitkin—call 970-822-0181 for questions—.  City of Grand Junction

  • CMU students chose a new live mascot, Redbull (Rowdy II, approx 300 lb), at a vote held during a recent event at Suplizio Field before a baseball game.
