  • Girls on the Run of Western Colorado hosted a Spring 5K on May 3 in Grand Junction to celebrate their 25th season, drawing nearly 2,000 participants and marking their growth from a small event to one that has helped over 36,000 girls build teamwork and confidence. CRIME NEWS

  • Staff Sgt. Juan Gabriel Orona-Rodriguez from Fort Carson was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with conspiracy — distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine after he allegedly sold drugs to an undercover DEA agent before a Colorado Springs nightclub raid detained over 100 people.  KKCO 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservation groups filed a lawsuit challenging the BLM’s handling of oil and gas leases outside De Beque and in the upper North Fork Valley, arguing that missed payments and inactivity have legally terminated decades-old leases on pristine public lands—issues that hinder both conservation efforts and proper land management. The suit claims the agency has failed to resolve past NEPA and ESA violations, a move that conservationists say may prevent the lands from being used for wildlife habitat and recreation.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jared Polis vetoed a bill that would have extended public records request deadlines — the bill’s sponsors said they will not ask for an override vote. They said they want quick access to records and plan to work on new ideas that keep government clear and fair.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • Older drivers will have the chance to adjust their vehicles for comfort and road safety at a free CarFit class on May 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fruita’s Lower Valley Fire District building—additional health events include a midwifery symposium on Aug. 8 at Intermountain St. Mary’s and a rattlesnake avoidance class for dogs from May 15 to 17 at Canyon Country Animal Hospital.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
