COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grand Junction's Community Recreation Center, a $82 million facility with pools, an indoor climbing wall and community spaces, is set to open later this year — reservations begin June 8. Local input drove the 107,000 sqft design, and daily construction progress is visible.  KJCT
  • The new Community Recreation Center in Grand Junction is set to open later this year with pools, a climbing wall, gym, and community rooms built from decades of input. Starting June 8, the 107,000 sqft facility will begin taking reservations, & over 100 workers are building it daily.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Glade Park residents will meet with Mesa County Commissioners + county leaders on Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. at the Glade Park Church and Community Center to discuss local issues and answer questions.  Mesa County
  • Erin Minnerath was named Executive Director of Mesa County Public Health after a nationwide search among more than 40 candidates; she began the role on May 6 after serving as deputy director since April 2024.  Mesa County

HEALTH NEWS

  • Air quality awareness week is underway as part of a national initiative to educate locals about how car emissions, wildfires and open burning affect breathing and overall health. Mesa County Public Health advises residents (especially those with asthma) to use masks and stay indoors when air quality is low.  KJCT
  • Mesa County Department of Human Services has placed eligibility specialists at Family Health West in Fruita and Community Hospital to help patients apply for Medicaid + SNAP and other benefits while they receive care.  Mesa County
  • Pediatricians across the Grand Valley have launched the Secure Their Future program to help families store guns safely and reduce injuries among children.
