ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tour bus carrying Colorado students caught fire near mile marker 101 on State Route 191 early Friday due to a mechanical issue + the driver evacuated the students safely, and a replacement bus was sent by the San Juan County School District to transport them to a junior high in Moab.  KJCT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Terra Energy Partners agreed to pay $41.7 million to settle a class-action lawsuit by 1,600 mineral royalty owners, including Mesa County residents, over claims of unreasonable royalty deductions— a federal district judge will hold a hearing on Aug. 1 in Denver to decide on final approval.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

  • Grand Junction Police are investigating a death in a Clifton home where officers found a woman with physical trauma and a man with a likely self-inflicted gunshot wound—detectives say no suspects are being sought as the Mesa County Coroner’s Office prepares to notify next-of-kin before confirming the causes.  KJCT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Mesa University will confer 1,668 degrees on May 17th during two ceremonies while Mesa County Valley School District 51 plans to celebrate about 1,410 high school graduates over the coming days — including an increase of 80 seniors at Grand Junction High School. A report from the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education shows that 2025 could yield the largest high school class in years before numbers drop through 2041.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
