BUSINESS NEWS

  • Loveland Ski Area is set to retire its oldest lift chair at the end of the 2024/2025 season — the 42-year-old Lift 7 will be replaced with a new quad chair next season while a lottery to sell the original chairs begins on May 27 with winners notified on May 30.  KKCO 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, the District 51 Foundation awarded over $8,500 in wellness grants to 12 Mesa County Valley School District 51 staff to support health projects at schools. The funding will help build a wellness room at Bookcliff Middle and a rock-climbing wall at Pear Park—which is nearing its $20,000 goal—and support educational initiatives.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado is near the top of this year’s U.S. News & World Report ranking at No. 11 after earning high marks in education, the economy and health care — though it scored lower in opportunity, financial stability and crime and corrections and had fallen from No. 15 in 2023 to No. 16 in 2024.  KJCT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Invisible Patient, a documentary that examines challenges in Mesa County’s mental health care system, will screen at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15 at Asteria Theatre on Colorado Mesa University campus — doors open at 5:30 p.m. — with a Q&A panel and reception to follow; all proceeds will benefit the Good Samaritan Free Medical Clinic at 402 Grand Ave.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • St. Mary’s Regional Hospital will launch an intensive outpatient program on June 9 for teens with substance use and mental health challenges—providing individual, group and family therapy sessions after school hours at 2643 Patterson Road.
