Good morning, Grand Junction. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 14th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A newly paved path along Monument Road now connects a 10-mile loop through Redlands, fulfilling a community vision that began over two decades ago. The city and its partners will celebrate the project's completion next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Lunch Loops Trailhead — a milestone in local outdoor access — as further trail projects are planned.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Luminate Bank announced it is partnering with local mortgage experts Merica Street and Mary Jane Douma, who co-founded Merica and Mary Jane as a division of the bank, to make the loan process simpler for Grand Junction residents— they bring over 50 years of combined local experience in mortgage lending.  The Business Times
  • Loki Gear has moved back to its old home at 445 Colorado Avenue after nearly three years on Main Street because higher rent and fewer new customers did not boost sales. Owner Seth Anderson said he expects steady sales and easier parking for shoppers (helping the business remain strong locally).  The Business Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Grand Junction and the Commission on Arts and Culture are asking local artists to create original mural designs that will turn park maintenance shipping containers into public art—each design should match the character of its park. Proposals with sketches and past work images are due by May 25.  The Business Times
  • Spring Fling Festival will be held May 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cross Orchards Historic Site at 3073 F Road — local vendors, food, crafts, plant sales and kid rides will be offered. FCI Constructors Inc is the title sponsor — live music by Rodney Hayden from 4 to 6 p.m. and by Straygrass from 6 to 8 p.m. is planned and admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and veterans, and $7 for children.  The Business Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Higher temperatures and dust on the snow have lowered snowpack levels and raised drought concerns, but local water agencies use a dual water system that pulls from reservoirs—helping them meet customer needs while urging residents to conserve water.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Junction City Council voted 4-3 on May 7 to end the Fourth and Fifth Street pilot project after surveys showed a steep drop in customer confidence and business visits downtown — the reversal is expected to cost over $245,000 with city staff beginning planning soon.  The Business Times
  • Grand Junction low-income families who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals are set to receive $120 per child in summer meal benefits — summer EBT cards have been mailed and may take up to a month to arrive.  KKCO 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community Hospital received the 2025 Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades on Tuesday, May 13th, which shows its strong focus on quality patient care—making it the only Mesa County hospital to earn the honor.  KJCT
