COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab held an adoption event at Chow Down in Grand Junction yesterday to offer dogs from Native American reservations a chance for a new home. The Moab-based group holds about six events each month and has rescued 4,229 dogs in over seven years (helping dogs with tick infestations and injuries) while also asking for new volunteers and fosters.  KKCO 11
  • Veterans from VFW Post 3981 volunteered at the Food Bank of the Rockies on May 13—packing food boxes for families facing food insecurity across western Colorado as part of their National Day of Service. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chipeta Elementary School students broke ground Friday evening on the new Chipeta Community Park funded by a $550k grant from Colorado Health Foundation and additional local contributions—the summer project will add a turf field, playground equipment, a basketball court, a Blue River Path, murals, and a time capsule that will be unearthed in 20 years.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

  • Colorado National Monument Association will host three programs in the coming weeks, including a 'Then and Now Presentation' on May 24 at Saddlehorn Visitor Center, a kids program on June 5 at Devil's Kitchen Picnic Shelter, and 'Nocturne Art' on June 11 at Saddlehorn Picnic Area, with park passes required and some events needing RSVPs & no RSVP needed for the presentation. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control launched a Chromebook Safety Campaign after over 200 incidents in schools reported damaged laptops from a social media challenge, warning that tampering with charging ports can lead to overheating and fire risks.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wells Enterprises voluntarily recalled over 16,000 gallons of Blue Bunny and Halo Top ice cream and frozen yogurt on April 25 due to possible plastic contamination in three-gallon tubs—these products, offered in 22 flavors at 103 centers nationwide and with best-by dates from March to October, have not caused any illnesses—company officials confirmed.  KJCT
