COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local residents and community partners celebrated Tuesday evening when officials opened the final phase of the Monument Trail, a 10-mile paved loop linking the Lunch Loops Trailhead to South Camp Road (city leaders and state funders helped make the project possible) that gives safe, car-free access to local recreation areas (local donors and groups supported its long-term plan).  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • A road report by Dalen Brazelton was posted on May 21 (5:19 a.m.) and updated (5:20 a.m.) with current travel details for Grand Junction. The report outlined the latest road conditions across the area.  WesternSlopeNow.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 29-year-old Grand Junction man, Jonah Larson, was arrested by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office on May 20 for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a woman who fled to a neighbor’s home—he now faces charges for kidnapping, robbery, false imprisonment, attempted 1st degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment, criminal invasion of privacy, criminal mischief and 3rd degree assault—and he is set to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on May 29.  KKCO 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Junction Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture will host the 10th annual Take Part in Art event on Saturday, June 21 at Lincoln Park, 910 N. 12th St from 10 a.m. to noon—this free event offers hands-on crafts, live performances, games, prize drawings, food vendors, and a Passport to Art challenge.  City of Grand Junction

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Grand Junction installed a new HAWK pedestrian crossing signal at the Monument Trail crossing on Monument Road, making it the first of its kind in both Grand Junction and Mesa County. The city will add a similar signal along Four Canyons Parkway soon—boosting pedestrian safety along busy routes.  City of Grand Junction
  • Jay Valentine is the new Chief Financial Officer for Grand Junction, taking charge of the Finance, Information Technology and General Services Department today. He brings over 26 years of city finance experience and plans to support current services while setting a strong course for the future.  KKCO 11
  • Property owners in Mesa County must update their mailing address with the Assessor’s Office to make sure they get the tax notice mailed each January. Tax deadlines are half payments on the last day in February and June 15, with full payments due by April 30 (a red flag if not received by June) while reassessments mean many will face higher taxes in 2026.  Mesa County
  • The City of Grand Junction is offering up to $500,000 in funding for organizations providing shelter, affordable housing, or support services for the unhoused. Applications must be submitted by June 26 at 1 p.m.—city officials say homelessness has increased by 60% since 2019.  KJCT
