Good morning, Grand Junction.

On June 7, Wüffstock at the Gardens will be held at Western Colorado Botanical Gardens with live music by Liver Down the River and Zac Grant in a dog-friendly benefit for Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
Doors open at 3 p.m. and music begins at 4 p.m.—attendees may also enjoy food trucks, vendor booths, and free entry for children under 13 and well-behaved, leashed dogs.
A heated board meeting last week saw teachers and union members clash over budget pressures, smaller classes, and teacher safety in the first contract impasse in 40 years—board officials cited a $2.8 million insurance cost hike and declining enrollment as major factors.

On May 21 (a week ago), the City Council voted unanimously to censure Council member Jason Nguyen for a Facebook comment urging a boycott of local businesses opposing a downtown transportation project, and he issued a public apology at the meeting.

City Manager Mike Bennett announced today that Jay Valentine, a 26-year veteran, was chosen as Grand Junction’s chief financial officer after a competitive recruitment process with over 25 applicants.

Mesa County Commissioners voted on May 20 to join the Western Slope Colorado Oil and Gas Association in a lawsuit against new air quality rules that may force local energy facilities to close — county officials say the mandates could cost local jobs and hurt economic stability.
