BUSINESS NEWS

  • Colorado Craft Coffee and Beer House sees a 25% drop in business during the summer as CMU students leave town. Co-owner James Ferguson said the shop relies on community ties (especially with students) to support operations through the slower months.  KJCT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Junction-based Leitner-Poma of America is part of the Roosevelt Island Tramway's 50th TRAMiversary celebration today in New York City & will honor five decades of service since 1976.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grand Junction High School’s academic team competed in a national Quiz Bowl Tournament last weekend in Atlanta (with 318 teams). Their A team (Carmen Barrientos, Lincoln McQuade, Neil Scott, Erik TerLouw, and Cooper Teske) finished prelims 5-5, marking the program’s 13th appearance.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Governor Polis could sign a bipartisan bill today that would change federal disability rights law into state law for public schools. Senate Bill 26-125 would set up a formal process for families to report discrimination and help more than 44,000 students get the support they need.  KKCO 11
  • District 51 celebrated the start of renovations at Fruita Monument High School on Tuesday as new science labs, upgraded career and technical spaces, and improved safety features are being built + the project is funded by the 2024 bond initiative and is set to complete in August 2027.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Polis signed the Colorado Outdoor Opportunities Act today to expand outdoor access for all — a move to reduce crowding and improve recreation for residents and visitors — as Colorado Parks and Wildlife develops new management plans.  KKCO 11
  • Construction will begin on Phase 1 of the Orchard Avenue Safety and Connectivity Project on June 8 with 1,885 feet of road reconstruction, a new roundabout at 31 Road plus drainage improvements; the project is funded by state and federal grants and will run until late December.  Mesa County
  • Clifton Water District announced Wednesday it is implementing temporary drought rates to push water conservation amid low reservoir levels, with lower users unaffected and heavy users charged more. The rates remain until the watershed improves — residents are urged to repair leaks and limit outdoor watering.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mesa County Public Health Department released its biweekly restaurant inspection blotter covering safety inspections of local eateries from Mack to De Beque. Several establishments such as Wok+Go and The Roost Bar+Grill were cited for food safety violations, though no closures were reported since April 30.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
