  • Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and Special Olympics Colorado will host the 5K Glow N Games 2025 at Long Family Park on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.—runners will be covered in glow powder while deputies, volunteers, and civil employees cheer, and all funds raised will support Special Olympics Colorado.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • Kiwanis will host its 57th annual Pancake Day and Funfest on Saturday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Mesa County Fairgrounds on Orchard Mesa—tickets cost $10 for adults and are free for children under 12 while proceeds will help local non-profit groups supporting kids.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • In early June, the Colorado National Monument Association will host two family-friendly events at the Devil’s Kitchen Picnic Shelter at 2300 Monument Road—Resiliency Ranger Family Day on June 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. featuring outdoor workshops led by Amber Martin—and Scales, Tales, and Creative Trails on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. offering lizard hikes and art by Denise Wright with registration open until June 2.  WesternSlopeNow.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office identified New Castle resident Dawn Ingrid Triplat, 84, and Highland residents Teddy-Jo Headrick, 70, and Richard Headrick, 81 as the victims of Tuesday’s two-vehicle crash on U.S. Interstate 70—Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident.  WesternSlopeNow.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Jonah Larson, 29 year old and accused of kidnapping & assaulting a woman last week, appeared in court this morning with his attorney who requested waiving the 35 day wait period and scheduling a 50 minute bond hearing next week while the prosecution sought a significantly higher bond with his next hearing set for Tuesday, July 3 at 8:15 a.m.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • A Grand Junction officer named Cody Lopez has denied using his taser improperly during a January incident at Abraham Ybarra’s home—where a federal lawsuit alleges excessive force even though charges against Ybarra were later dropped.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday at about 8 p.m., firefighters fully contained the Fault Line fire near a campsite in Ruby Horsethief Canyon, where 34.4 acres burned. Six firefighters remained at the site (mop-up continued) as officials investigated the cause, and no injuries were reported.  WesternSlopeNow.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Junction is re-launching its affordable housing incentive program and is inviting developers to submit letters of request between June 1 and July 1 for the 2026 budget so the city can pay fees — including impact fees, plant investment fees, and water and sewer services — to lower the cost of building affordable units. The program also requires developers to ensure long-term affordability through deed restrictions or land use covenants.  KKCO 11
  • The Grand Junction City Council voted unanimously to move ahead with a split design for the Fourth and Fifth street pilot program after strong community input. The new plan creates two-lane traffic between Ute Avenue and Grand Avenue — with a buffered bike lane and modified parking — while retaining a one-lane design in neighborhood areas north of Grand.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
