- ➤ The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office hosted the Glow N Games fundraiser on May 31 to support Special Olympics Colorado+ the event featured a 5K glow in the dark run and community games+ funds raised will help athletes compete at the state games during the first week of June. KJCT

- ➤ Cedaredge-based Snow Capped Cider won its second straight Midsized Cidermaker of the Year award at the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition held in Grand Rapids, Michigan earlier this month—setting a record with 27 Best in Class awards and 59 total medals. - ➤ On Friday at 2:20 a.m., police responded to a moped crash on the 2800 block of North Avenue that left a man dead after his moped hit and crossed the median, and on Thursday at 1:25 p.m., officers arrested Joel Ballantyne after he threatened to kill someone and assaulted a missionary during a visit at a residence—investigations continue in both cases. - ➤ On May 31, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy hosted its 12th annual trade show at Mesa Mall where 15 middle and high school students showcased businesses they built from initial ideas to investor pitches. Organized by the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce, the event featured student entrepreneur Brielle Nye, who received the Sandra Scholar award — marking a key step in her journey to becoming her own boss. - ➤ Mesa County DHS is launching the Double Up Food Bucks program for residents with Colorado EBT cards at local farmers markets, where every dollar spent on SNAP-eligible fruits and veggies is matched up to $20 a day and $60 a month + the program supports healthy food choices and local farms. Local events include Palisade Farmers Market starting today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Fruita Farmers Market on Saturdays at Fruita Civic Center Park, and Market on Main in downtown Grand Junction with adjusted hours later in the summer + shoppers must show their EBT card at the booth before buying.
