  • A Grand Junction paramedic rescued nine ducklings trapped in a storm drain last Friday by climbing down a roofing ladder and using a bystander's carrier, reuniting them with their mother. The rescue, reported amid other calls for Engine 2, shows the fire department’s readiness for unexpected situations.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

  • Bob Delavan from the Business Incubator Center explained key steps for starting a business during a presentation yesterday, offering simple tips for local entrepreneurs looking to launch new ventures.  KKCO 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mesa County Workforce Center will host free in-person workshops for job seekers this June. Job Search 101 will be on Thursday, June 4, Resume Basics on Thursday, June 11, and Interview Prep on Thursday, June 18 at the center.  Mesa County
  • Colorado Mesa University student Enrique Quintero won the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Award late last month for his photo of a firefighting plane dropping retardant over the Turner Gulch Wildfire in the Gateway area (the shot was published by The Criterion).  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • The District 51 Foundation received a grant from Gary Community Ventures to help local families access after-school and summer programs. The foundation is workshopping a program to support Mesa County children in participating in extracurricular activities.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Aspen-Sopris Ranger District will empty Lake Ann through August to repair its reservoir dam while keeping nearby day-use areas open. Repairs start mid-June and will take about six weeks — visitors should stay clear of construction zones.  KJCT

  • Champion Foods LLC is recalling select batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread after California Dairies recalled dry milk powder used in its seasoning because of Salmonella concerns — no illnesses have been reported yet.
