COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Jackalopes’ season opener featured a ribbon-cutting at Suplizio Field for the new Enstrom Curveball Creamery, where Enstrom Candies partnered with the Grand Junction, Palisade and Fruita Chambers of Commerce to offer flavors like vanilla, chocolate, Toffee Lovers and Graham Central Central Station. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ PBG Advisors left Fruita for a 5,400-square-foot office at 2452 Patterson Road in Grand Junction — ending offsite meetings — after outgrowing its previous space. The new location features a large in-house training room and supports its 16-person team with room for growth and easier client access near Mesa Mall. The Business Times
- ➤ GJ Auto Sales, a 22-year local business at 320 S. First St., closed on May 23 when state, city, and county authorities used eminent domain to acquire the property for a new mobility hub that supports Colorado’s climate goals. The family, led by Amber Colunga Martinez and Mike Martinez, received a low settlement that did not cover lost income, legal fees, and relocation costs — raising concerns more businesses along Ute and Pitkin avenues could be affected. The Business Times
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Professor Nathan Perry from Colorado Mesa University said Mesa County’s unemployment dipped to 4.8% in April—slightly above Colorado’s 4.6%—while Q1 GDP contracted by 0.3%, fueling recession concerns. He noted job growth in healthcare and added that slower growth may lead the Fed to adjust rates if further good inflation reports come in. The Business Times
- ➤ WineAmerica’s 2025 Economic Impact Study shows that Colorado’s wine industry has generated nearly $5.72 billion in activity, up from $3.91 billion in 2022. The study estimates that the sector will contribute about $323.55 billion to the national economy through production, sales, tourism, and jobs. The Business Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, 700 goats are grazing on 60 acres along the Riverfront Trail in Grand Junction to clear invasive weeds and lower wildfire risk. The City has brought the goats in for their third season and they are expected to finish grazing in four to six weeks — cyclists and pedestrians should give the animals space. KJCT
- ➤ Local wildlife activists from Cats Aren’t Trophies are urging residents to attend Colorado Parks and Wildlife meetings on June 11 and June 12 so CPW leaders will speak up during a dangerous time for wolves; the group argues that protecting wolves is vital since they serve as a keystone species (helping to support non-lethal coexistence). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County recycles old asphalt to build new roads by inviting contractors and local governments to drop off removed material at a designated yard (971 Coffman Road, Whitewater).
