- ➤ Builders are constructing the Confluence Center at 2600 Dos Rios Drive to house six nonprofits that teach about the local environment, conservation, and the river. The one-story building will have a preschool and nonprofit working space & event room, with the preschool opening in September and the nonprofit center opening in October or early November. KJCT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At approximately 10:45 a.m. today, Grand Junction Police responded to an accident on North Ave and N 6th Street when a car exiting a business parking lot struck a motorcyclist traveling eastbound — the rider was taken to a hospital with suspected minor injuries while the investigation continues. - ➤ Grand Junction Safeway workers voted 87% to authorize a strike if management fails to meet their demands for better wages, fair scheduling and safe workplaces—this decision follows stalled contract talks and comes amid similar votes expected in Estes Park, Fountain and Steamboat on Wednesday and Thursday—management said it remains committed to fair negotiations. - ➤ Grand Junction Police found a dead body in the sleeper cab of a company semi-truck at the Pilot Truck Stop on Highway 6 and 50 after a welfare check call on June 4 at 1:00 p.m.—officials do not suspect foul play. KJCT

- ➤ Fruita locals enjoyed the kickoff of the summer rodeo series, which marks 33 years of tradition near Rimrock Adventures. The event runs every Tuesday until August 19—mutton bustin at 7:00 p.m. and the main show at 7:30 p.m.—with free entry for children 11 and under. KKCO 11
- ➤ Fruita residents attended the first summer rodeo on Tuesday, kicking off the 33-year Rimrock Rodeo Summer Series—where cowboys and cowgirls competed in events. The series will continue every Tuesday until August 19 near Rimrock Adventures one mile south of the I-70 exit with mutton bustin beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the rodeo at 7:30 p.m., and tickets priced at $12 for ages 12 and older while children 11 and under enter free. - ➤ Mesa County Noxious Weed and Pest Management has started restoring Clifton Nature Park at 3227 D Road by planting slender wheatgrass and western wheatgrass after successful drill seeding and rain—efforts aimed at reviving the area as invasive species remain under control. Future plans include reintroducing native forbs and hardy grasses along with scarlet gilia, penstemon, sand dropseed, blue grama and rabbitbrush—residents can visit the reopened disc golf course to see the progress. - ➤ On Monday, Governor Jared Polis signed a law that gives Colorado Parks and Wildlife extra power to investigate wildlife trafficking — the law makes trafficking $10,000 worth of wildlife a Class 4 felony — CPW Director Jeff Davis said it will help stop the black market. KJCT

- ➤ Three months ago, Intermountain Health closed the only natural birthing center in western Colorado, leaving women with only hospital births or costly home births—causing many to worry about their choices. Former birth assistant Alaina Marquez said nurses and midwives in Grand Junction are now working to add low intervention care while talk of a new center remains unconfirmed. KJCT
