COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Grand Junction Police Department will host National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5 to help residents meet local officers and discuss public safety concerns. Registration closes on July 28 so residents can sign up to join the event.  WesternSlopeNow.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A vehicle rollover occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on I-70 near the Mile 66 marker in De Beque, involving two adults and a child with a woman ejected during the accident — the man and child reported no injuries as investigators check the scene.  WesternSlopeNow.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Megan Clark said her friend Caroline Goncalvez went missing after a strange police stop on I-70 near Fruita — the officer questioned her accent — and her phone was last tracked at the Grand Junction ICE field office as family awaits more answers.  KJCT
  • A former paramedic, Lauren Wilson, was arrested on May 29 on eight felony charges for working without a license and falsifying information while trying to obtain another license+ he was released on a $50,000 bond.  KJCT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, 51 adults earned their GED certificate at the Mesa County Workforce Center at 512 29 ½ Road+ the center offers free in-person classes, personalized tutoring and links to job training services.  Mesa County
  • On June 6, the Mesa County Workforce Center held a graduation ceremony for its adult education program where 51 graduates received free GED diplomas. The program helps connect students to career resources and flexible class schedules.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 2, Governor Jared Polis passed a bill aimed at reducing illegal wildlife trafficking—imposing harsher penalties that can include misdemeanors and felonies. The legislation will also allow Colorado Parks and Wildlife to add new investigative positions to track low-profile species such as reptiles and fish.  KKCO 11
  • Several road projects are planned in Grand Junction starting June 9. Crosby Ave. utility work will close a section from Main St. to W. Gunnison through June and work at the Horizon Dr. and G Rd. roundabout will continue through October—additional projects on 29 Rd., 4th Street, the Chip Seal Program and Unaweep Ave. will cause short delays.  City of Grand Junction
